TZ-1820-SL

1:1 high power SLOPER Balun

The TZ-1820-SL balun is a high performance low loss, linear ferritecore 1:1 CURRENT balun. The balun is supplied with all stainless steel connections, fully sealed in a high impact ABS plastic case and is suitable for mounting to the leg of a "Nally' or equivalent tower.  Additional windings are provided to ensure that the balun has sufficient inductive impedance at 1.8MHz.

The balun is supplied with an aluminium mounting bracket connected to one output of the balun. This provides the electrical connection to the tower for use in a "half sloper" design. A stainless steel 25mm U-bolt is provided to connect the balun to the tower. The other output connection is a 6mm stainless steel stud which is used to coneect the sloper radiating element - for any band you wish to use 40m, 80m, 75m, 160m.

The linear ferrite core is used to extend the useable range of the balun down to 160m, whilst still being able to handle high power, without saturating.

The TZ-1820-SL Balun features include:

Operating frequency

2 to 20 MHz (usable above 20MHz with degraded VSWR

Operating power

1kW PEP or CW continuous (into a matched load)

Type

Linear Ferrite core

Ratio

1:1

Typical impedance

50 ohm or 75 ohm

Thru loss

Less than 0.25 dB (typical)

VSWR

Degradation less than 1.2:1 (typical)

The TZ-1820-SL is not a kit. It is supplied fully constructed with detailed installation instructions and hardware for mounting. However, you can use this balun for the basis of your own homebrew half-sloper antenna or random length wire antenna.

The TZ-1820-SL is an excellent choice for 80m and 160m half-sloper antennas mounted from a typical 45 or 50ft tower with yagi antenna. Also can be used for end fed random length wires with random lengths on each end of the wire (tuner required).
