PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The TZ-1820SL balun is a high performance low loss, 1:1 balun. The balun is supplied with all stainless steel connections, fully sealed in a high impact ABS plastic case and is suitable for boom mounting or sling mounting. A ferrite core is used to extend the useable range of the balun down to 160m, whilst still being able to handle high power, without saturating. The Sloper balun is supplied with a mounting bracket and U-bolt so that it may be easily and effectively attached to the leg of a triangular tower (e.g. Nally or Rohn type). Note half sloper antennas have significant currents flowing in both the tower and radiating wire, which are virtually equal in magnitude. A balun is therefore recommended and indeed essential for keeping RF out of the shack when using a half sloper antenna.
Note that when used with a half sloper antenna system, the antenna (inclusive of TZ-1820SL balun) will perform rather well over the entire HF spectrum and can be a very effective multi-band antenna when used with an antenna tuner. It performs particularly well on 17m and 30m when tuned as an 80m half sloper antenna on a 13-15m tower.
MOUNTING CONSIDERATIONS
The TZ-1820SL is designed to be mounted directly to a tower and a wire element in half sloper antenna installations. All connections are either aluminium or stainless steel and an SO-239 connector is provided for connection to the feedline.
FOR THIS PRODUCT WHEN USING THE BALUN FOR A HALF_SLOPER ANTENNA, A TOWER (13.7m NALLY OR EQUIVALENT IS REQUIRED). The tower must be earthed at the base.
PRODUCT DESIGN AND COMPONENTS
The TZ-1820SL is not a full antenna but the balun is fully constructed and ready to install. Simply add your tower with tribander./yagi antenna and 1/4wave radiating section of wire and set-up your sloper lowband DX antenna. It is supplied fully constructed with detailed installation instructions and hardware for mounting. The TZ-1820SL is an excellent choice for half slopes antennas..
