PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The TZ-330D-49M unun is a high performance 49:1 conventional transformer unun (not a transmission line balun) which can be used for End Fed Half Wave (EFHW) antennas. It uses 2 by T-240 type 43 cores mounted in a large polycarbonate case for outdoor use. The Unun must be mounted vertically as there are drain and air circulating holes at the base. Teflon coated wire is used for high voltage rating and long winding life. The unun is supplied with all stainless steel connections, secured in a high impact ABS plastic case and is suitable for fence, tree, building or sling mounting.
MOUNTING CONSIDERATIONS
The TZ-330T-49M is designed to be able to be used in either wire antenna or boom antenna installations. An eyelet is provided to support the balun when it is hung in a vertical situation such as when installed in an inverted L configuration. A straight horizontal mounting or upside down Vee configuration may also be used. An earth lug is provided for either connection to ground or for a short (1.5m long counterpoise. A choke (20 turns around a 2.4inch core on the feedline is recommended for additional choking of feedline braid current. A 100pf compensation capacitor is installed for improved matching on 22-30MHz.
PRODUCT DESIGN AND COMPONENTS
The TZ-330D-49M is not a kit. This is a dual toroidal core, transformer mode Unun. It is supplied fully constructed with detailed installation instructions and hardware for mounting. The TZ-330D-49M is an excellent choice for EFHW antennas where the user either operated intermittently with 500w SSB or CW or no more than 250w FT-8. If the VSWR of the antenna rises during transmissions the unun core has gotten hot to the currie point of the ferrite and transmission should cease until the core cools. The Unun can also be used to end feed a vertical or horizontal wire of half or multiple half wavelength or random length with a feedpoint located ATU for an effective all band antenna.
